About Us

Alaska Wellness Factor was founded with the idea of offering evidence-based medically aligned massage and bodywork, and making it a relaxing environment and experience. We believe wellness encompasses multiple factors. Our vision is to move into addressing these multiple factors of wellness including a multi-disciplinary approach.

Volker B. Hruby, LMT

Alaska Wellness Factor founder Volker B. Hruby started his massage and bodywork profession in 2005 when he graduated massage school. He jumped into the medical end of the profession right out of massage school working at a chiropractic and physical therapy center at their multiple locations in Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska for 4 years becoming their lead therapist. Volker moved on to working for the Ice Spa atop the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel and Spa. A lead therapist at the Ice Spa, he spent over 11 years there, leaving in 2020 to put efforts into constructing a building, part of which would house Alaska Wellness Factor.

In 2013, Volker joined the board of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), Alaska Chapter and helped work on what would become the State of Alaska massage license and formation of the State of Alaska Board of Massage Therapists. This new state license and state massage board became affective in 2015. This legitimized the Alaska massage profession as a healthcare profession and gave licensed massage therapists the ability to bill health insurance.

Volker spent 6 years as President of the AMTA Alaska Chapter, striving to bring a sense of community to our local massage profession. He helped bring high quality continuing education to Alaska. Volker was elected to the national role of Chapter President's Council Moderator Elect and Moderator by his peers of AMTA state chapter presidents. He continues to be an advocate for our profession.

Believing in continuing his lifelong journey of learning, Volker strives to expand his knowledge in every aspect of what he does with massage, bodywork, and wellness, while seeking out evidence-based education. He plans to bring new aspects of this to Alaska Wellness Factor. Besides massage and bodywork, Volker has passions for photography, singing, and travel.
